The first modern
Japanese Restaurant
Brought to you by BRG

Much like the Japanese delicacy it is named for, Momotaro takes root in the vibrant Fulton Market District. Momotaro continues the philosophy of chef driven concepts focusing on tightly executed cuisine and highly personal service. Designed by world-renowned restaurant and experience designers, AvroKO, the main floor features distinct stations for Sushi and a dedicated Robata. Famed Washington DC Chef Mark Hellyar leads the Robata and Contemporary sections of the kitchen with Kaze Chan guiding the sushi station.

The Boardroom is Momotaro’s private dining room located on the second floor of the establishment, with floor-to-ceiling factory windows overlooking the main dining room bar. A large wood table spans the center of the room, seating up to 22 guests for a seated dinner and up to 30 for a reception-style event. Additional amenities include elevator entry, A/V capabilities, dedicated coat room and private washrooms.

Momotaro's Lower
Level Japanese Pub

The Izakaya is located on the subterranean level of Momotaro. The Izakaya and its shared-plates pub-inspired menu echoes the Yokocho street scene of Tokyo. Narrow lounge-inspired 'alleys' around a central bar bedecked with hand-painted Japanese menus, moody neon lights, and vintage Tokyo street signs set the scene for the Izakaya's direct nod to Tokyo's most famous post-war black markets. Dark, energetic, and ripe with expectation, the Izakaya additionally offers a 30-seat bar featuring crafted cocktails, sakes, and a quality selection of Japanese whiskeys.

Chef Mark Hellyar
Executive Chef / Partner

Momotaro’s Executive Chef and Partner, Mark Hellyar, started his professional culinary career working with Michel Richard at his iconic Citronelle, and then continued his education at Nora’s, both in Washington D.C. Nora’s, America’s first certified organic restaurant, became home to Chef Hellyar for four years, and saw him rise to Chef de Cuisine.

Chef Hellyar’s ultimate goal since his time in Japan was to have the opportunity to conceptualize and develop a Japanese restaurant that showcases the food of the modern Japanese culture. This happened to coincide with the plans of Kevin Boehm and Rob Katz of Boka Restaurant Group, and a partnership was formed. The cooking at Momotaro accents the seasons, features Japanese and locally sourced proteins and vegetables, and a unique and exceptional sushi program. Momotaro was designed by the well renowned AvroKO, and features a lower level lounge, and a dramatic private party room. Chef Hellyar, after many years of nomadic travel, is happy to be settled in the West Loop neighborhood of Chicago.
